Interrogation of the Hanged Man

1 minute, 2018, experimental film
Writer and director

Monica Youn's "Interrogation of the Hanged Man" is one of 11 "hanged man poems" by this author. Utilizing the dynamic question-and-answer format of the poem, this film adaptation of the poem presents the cryptic to-be-hanged man and the prim-and-proper interrogator as two sides of the same person. The obscuring of faces highlights the possibility of unbridled anonymity of a human body and a person of color, even from oneself, bringing into question the nature of understanding one's own appearance, identity, and true self.
